Movie Storyline:

In 1992 Bombay, Baskhar Kumar, a Magadha Bank cashier, is interrogated for alleged embezzlement. Flashbacks reveal his desperate circumstances three years prior: burdened by debt, he resorts to smuggling imported TVs with his friend Samba to improve his family’s life. This escalates to smuggling cars, which he successfully pulls off, even earning a promotion at the bank.

As assistant general manager, Baskhar discovers a larger fraud involving interbank loans manipulated by businessman Harsha Mehra. Initially hesitant, he is swayed by the potential profits and partners with a broker, Suraj, using stock market gains and hawala to legitimize his illicit income. This newfound wealth strains his relationship with his wife, Sumathi, and his father, Prahalad, who warns him of the dangers of greed. After bailing out Samba, who is arrested for smuggling, and witnessing the death of his general manager due to Mehra’s forged documents, Baskhar decides to expose the fraud to the Reserve Bank of India.

Threatened by corrupt bank officials, Baskhar is coerced into authorizing fraudulent transfers. However, he thwarts their plan by having previously closed his bank account, triggering an investigation that brings down Mehra and the bank’s leadership. Baskhar and his family then leave India, using their ill-gotten gains to secure an American investment visa and start a new life in Boston.
